Database of the Week

Biography in Context

Where can I find articles about Xi Jinping? Can you help me to find Netanyahu’s biography? What sources can I use for my presentation about Marie Curie? These are just some of the questions we heard at the Reference Desk this past week.

If you are looking for information on a particular important person, the Biography in Context database is a great starting point for your research. This database contains nearly a million of biographical entries on more than 400,000 people from throughout history, around the world, and across all subject areas – politics, government, science, business, literature, entertainment, sports, history, and the arts.

The Biography in Context database includes not only reference sources, such as online encyclopedias, but also full-text articles from more than 250 periodicals, images, videos, and audio clips. You can search for people by name, birth/death years and places, gender, occupation, nationality or ethnicity. The content is updated on a daily basis, and more than 50,000 bios added annually.

Find the BIOGRAPHY IN CONTEXT database on the SWC Library Articles and Database page.
