Citing Your Sources
If you’ve been asked to submit your final paper in MLA or APA format…
- Stop by the reference desk in the library and pick-up MLA and APA handouts with citation examples for print and digital books, magazines, journals, and websites.
- Check SWC Library's Citing Sources page where we posted links to quick and more detailed guides to citation styles.
- Come to the library for the most complete books about MLA and APA. We have several copies of the MLA Handbook (2016) and the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (2010). We also have books on college writing skills; these guides are available for check out.
A friendly reminder! When you use database sources, you don’t need to create citations from scratch. Find the “CITE” button and select the citation in APA or MLA format, but be sure to double check it (automatically generated citations are not always accurate).
If you need one-on-one help with organizing your paper and formatting it in MLA or APA style, call the Writing Center and ask for a 30-minute tutoring session.
Good luck with your final papers!

Database of the Week
Looking for an all-in-one visually engaging database that offers: images, primary sources, historical background and contemporary issues to support your research?
Check out The American Mosaic's Latino American Experience Database!
With a layout that is both aesthetically pleasing and easy to navigate, this database offers a variety of ways to tackle your research. Similar to a website, the landing page features articles discussing the work of leading scholars as well as the latest policy and movement trends. Within the left column, you'll find a "Research And Study Center" that enables you to explore chronological history, from the Maya Empire to the New Millennium. While to the the right, you'll find the option to progress to an advanced search in the upper corner, suggested primary sources featured in the side column, and related sources as you scroll to the bottom.
This site is packed with information and presents information rich with text and visual images, offering a kaleidoscopic lens through which to examine and perform research on Latino American history, culture, politics, and more.
