The Garland Encyclopedia of World Music Online

Now for the first time, the entire set of 10 print volumes of The Garland Encyclopedia of World Music is available as a single, integrated online collection. From the Southwestern College Library website, you can use this online resource to stream and listen to over 300 hundred audio music examples from around the world.

The encyclopedia, also includes more than 9,000 pages of music research of all the world's peoples.

For off campus use of the Garland encyclopedia, you must be a currently enrolled students here at Southwestern College.

American Song - Listen to Music Online

American Song is an online music listening service that documents the history of American music. A fully searchable music resource, the American Song database includes over 12,000 tracks of licensed recordings that users can listen to over the Internet. Included in the database are the songs of Civil Rights, political campaigns, Prohibition, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, anti-war protests and more.

New Online Music Encyclopedia

A new addition to our Articles and Databases website is the Garland Encyclopedia of World Music Online .

This comprehensive online resource is devoted to music research of all the world’s peoples and includes the entire set of the ten volume Garland Encyclopedia of World Music. The online resource is searchable and provides an overview of a geographic region; a survey of the region’s musical heritage, traditions and themes; and a description of its musical genres, practices, and performances.

Online Music

New to our Articles and Databases website are the Classical Music Library a comprehensive database of distinguished classical recordings, Smithsonian Global Sound a virtual encyclopedia of the world's musical and aural traditions and African American Song which includes jazz, blues, gospel and other forms of African American musical expression.

These three online music resources include more than 160,000 tracks of music. The Classical Music Library, Smithsonian Global Sound, African American Song and other online resources are available on our Articles and Databases website www.swccd.edu/~library/articles.htm
