Maxed Out: American Moms on the Brink
by Katrina Alcorn
Call Number: New Books HQ 759.48 A43 2013
The title of this book says it all, Maxed Out: American Moms on the Brink. This is an easy reading, personal account of one working mother’s challenges of trying to balance home life and a career, and falling prey to the failures of trying to do it all. Even with a successful career and family life, Alcorn found herself facing a breakdown which led to depression and anxiety, and ultimately medication.
Alcorn’s situation of trying to do it all and falling short of her own expectations is an all-too-familiar story for many women in today’s society. In this personal story she shares her journey from success to breakdown, from medication to meditation and therapy, and finally to the road of balance and harmony. She shares helpful techniques for combating stress and provides a forum for women of today’s society to discover that they’re not alone.
This book is available for four-week check out with your SWC photo ID card.
