LexisNexis - Take a Tour

LexisNexis Academic – What is it?

LexisNexis Academic is a database with searchable access to full-text information from over 5,600 sources. The database includes national, international and regional newspaper sources, federal and state court opinions, statutes as well as company financial information, industry reports and market news.

As a Southwestern College student, you can access of it for free.

New Interface and Added Features

With a “Google-like” search box, LexisNexis Academic’s homepage is easier to use and looks less cluttered compared to its past look. One can still access advanced search features by clicking on the Advanced Options under the search box or limit their search to specific content areas by clicking on the down arrow in the “Search by Content Type” above the right-side of the Search box.

Added Features
Under Advanced Options, the Date year drop down expanded to 30 years. One can narrow their results by date limit by selecting: “date is today, previous week, previous year, etc.”

Business and Industry News and U.S. Newspapers were also added to the “All News” search form, which one gets to by clicking on “Search by Content Type” down arrow and then clicking on “All News” under “News” section.

Another great added feature is accessing “Tax Law” and “Accounting” information as a content type. This is found by clicking on “Search by Content Type” down arrow and then look down for the section, “People, Places and Things”, to click on either section.

Happy hunting!
