Check It Out
December 2016 is Human Rights Awareness Month.
Did you know in the Library’s collections there's a great title honoring this theme to check out?
Human rights : the hard questions
Editors: Cindy Holder and David Reidy
Cambridge University Press, 2013.
Main Library Stacks Collection: Call Number: JC571 .H84 2013
This book provides a discussion of human rights from theoretical and philosophical viewpoints. The editors chose essays written by distinguished philosophers, political scientists, international lawyers, environmentalists, and anthropologists. Examples of questions they debate include: What do human rights require of the global economy?; Does it make sense to secure them by force?; Is global climate change a human rights issue?; and Is there a human right to democracy?
Come to the library to see more Human Rights Awareness-related titles on display this month.

Human Rights Day
December is Human Rights Awareness Month
Human Rights Day is observed on December 10, in commemoration of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights drafted by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10, 1948.
This document was a milestone in paving the way to identify fundamental human rights that must be universally protected.
Article 1 of the Declaration states:
All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.(Source: Universal Declaration of Human Rights, United Nations)
Visit our display on the third floor of the Library to learn more about Human Rights Awareness Month. We have books, e-books, articles, films, and more!
