Citing Your Sources

If you’ve been asked to submit your final paper in MLA or APA format…
  • Stop by the reference desk in the library and pick-up MLA and APA handouts with citation examples for print and digital books, magazines, journals, and websites.
  • Check SWC Library's Citing Sources page where we posted links to quick and more detailed guides to citation styles.

A friendly reminder! When you use database sources, you don’t need to create citations from scratch. Find the “CITE” button and select the citation in APA or MLA format, but be sure to double check it (automatically generated citations are not always accurate).

If you need one-on-one help with organizing your paper and formatting it in MLA or APA style, call the Writing Center and ask for a 30-minute tutoring session.

Good luck with your final papers!

MLA? APA? We've got you covered.

The Library's citation guide will help you with citing sources in the correct format.

Our MLA and APA quick guides for commonly cited sources are a good place to start. The handouts illustrate the required format for the citation, along with examples.

If you used the Library's EBSCOhost databases to find full-text periodical articles or e-books, then you can use the EBSCO "Cite" button to create a citation. This yellow button appears on the right side of the page when viewing the document. Many citation styles are provided, so be sure to select the correct one for your assignment!

Cite it Right : the SourceAid Guide to Citation, Research, and Avoiding Plagiarism
by Tom Fox
Osterville, MA : SourceAid, 2007 (3rd ed.)

Are you finishing up that final paper? Sometimes the hardest part is figuring out how to correctly cite your sources.
  • You used a quote in your paper. How should you cite it?
  • You found an article in one of the library's databases. What format should you use to cite it in your Works Cited page?
  • Have you plagiarized any of your sources? What is plagiarism?

Cite it Right is a handy how-to guide for all of your citation questions. There are separate chapters for a variety of citation styles, including MLA, APA, and Chicago Manual of Style. These chapters outline how to correctly cite within your paper and on your Works Cited page. In addition, if you are just beginning to write your paper, Cite it Right has an entire chapter on how to organize your thoughts to get started writing.

Cite it Right is in the New Books Area and it may be checked out for 4-weeks. For more information on how to cite using MLA or APA citation styles, use the library's citation help page. This page provides you with PDF quick reference guides and links to useful citation websites.
