College Book finalists
It's time for the entire campus to vote for the ninth College Book, a book that can be used for extra credit activities and discussions in many disciplines during spring semester.
This year the finalists are:
Enrique's Journey, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning series from the L.A. Times about a 17-year old Honduran who enters the U.S. illegally to seek his mother who left home twelve years earlier. (non-fiction)
Frankenstein We all know the story . . . or do we? Did you know that this timeless classic was first published in 1818? (fiction)
Longitude: The True Story of a Lone Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of His Time A clockmaker came up with a solution to save lives of countless sailors. (non-fiction)
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan In nineteenth-century China, selection of a lifelong best friend was done by a matchmaker and was as important as the selection of a husband. (fiction)
Copies of all the finalists are available at the Reserve Desk in the Library for one-hour, in-building use only. Come and peruse these and make your choice. Staff and faculty can vote through their Outlook mail. Students will be able to submit votes on paper at the Bookstore, Library, Academic Success Center, HEC, and San Ysidro Education Center.
Five people who vote, no matter which book they vote for, will be selected at random to win a copy of the College Book.
