Scholarly journals vs. magazines... what's the difference?
What are scholarly journals?
- Publish articles written by scholars, specialists, or researchers in the field
- Include lengthy articles which contain original research
- Contain articles with cited references
- Intended for an academic audience and use technical vocabulary
- Include little or no advertising
- Publish articles written by journalists who are summarizing or analyzing a topic for the reader
- Tend to have short articles (1-5 pages)
- Contain articles that do not have cited references
- Intended for a general audience and use conversational language
- Include extensive commercial advertising
