Database of the Week

Need help with choosing a major or which college to transfer to for your next degree or certificate, the SWC Library provides access to a database section that helps you learn about which decision to make!

The “Plan Your Education” section is found in Ferguson’s Career Guidance Center database. You can access it by going to the SWC Library’s Articles Databases page. Look for the Education and Career section box and click on the link to the Ferguson's Career Guidance Center.

If you’re off-campus, you will need to use your WebAdvisor username [first initial of your first and last names, 0 (zero) and your six digit student ID number, like aa012345] and password before accessing this database.

You will then find the “Plan Your Education” section on the database’s homepage. Choosing a College Major or Choosing a College are available as articles that you can choose to print, email or download.

Let the SWC Library help you discover your next educational goal.

Did you know Chlorine and Ammonia are added to our drinking water?

City of San Diego 2015 Annual Drinking Water Quality Report
Available in English and Spanish (most years) from 2001 through 2015.

https://www.sandiego.gov/water/quality/reports

I found the City of San Diego 2015 Annual Drinking Water Quality Report very informational and interesting when it showed up in my mail a few months ago so I held on to it to share as my resource. The report or course is designed for the general consumer and provides easy to understand information about the water quality in our city.

Meanwhile, someone doing in depth research may find it valuable as it also includes tables containing detailed data such as lead levels, water hardness, and pH levels, and much more. The report contains details about “where your water comes from, what it contains, and how it compares to state standards.” There’s a lot more included as well, such as information detailing plans on diversifying the area’s water supply and much about the actual treatment process the water we drink goes through. Furthermore, conservation concerns are stressed and many other resources (mostly online) are recommended.

 UNESCO's World Heritage List

UNESCO's World Heritage List is a database of sites of special cultural or physical significance. To be included in the World Heritage List, sites must be of outstanding universal value and meet specific selection criteria.

The sites are displayed on an interactive map, followed by an A-Z list by country. The list can also be displayed by region, year added to list, or A-Z by site name.

The map legend identifies the category/type of site (cultural, natural, or mixed) and denotes those sites that are in danger. Select a site for additional images, historical overview, selection criteria, integrity/condition, management, news and more.

For even more information on some of the ancient cultural sites on UNESCO's World Heritage List, check out SWC Library's World History Ancient and Medieval Eras database
